Over the River and Through the
Woods
On
May 12, The Lakewood Theatre Company will open its second show
of the 2006 season with their production of Joe DiPietro’s
Over the River and Through the Woods, directed by Jason
Deathridge. In this sincere comedy of Faith, Family, and Food,
Nick Cristano is a young Italian-American who manages to meet
both his maternal and paternal grandparents religiously for
Sunday dinner. After receiving an offer of promotion at work, he
must deal with explaining to his dear ol’ folks that taking the
job means moving away from their family home.
The
importance of family takes center stage as the grandparents
become extremely frustrated with the thought of their remaining
grandchild leaving them for “just some job.” It is enough to
make the elders do whatever it takes to help Nick find a reason
to stay. With the lure of classic Italian cooking and a set up
with the “perfect” girl, maybe he will finally see the most
important things in life are right here.
The production
will open May 12-14, with special Mother’s Day ticket prices,
and will continue to run May 19-21, and May 26 & 27. Curtain
times are 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday, with 2:30 Sunday
Matinees on the 14th and 21st. For further
information and reservations call the Lakewood Theatre at
